In the Context of the Collection: Georgia Sagri: Case_O. Between Wars

Year:

2025

Georgia Sagri's work is distinguished by her extensive performance practice, also producing sculptures, videos, installations, texts and drawings. All of Sagri's works embody her deep social and political commitment to empowerment, emancipation and self-organisation.

For over a decade, Sagri has integrated her research practice, IASI (Greek for 'recovery'), into her exhibitions and performances. Initially developed to prepare and recuperate from demanding performances, IASI's breathing, movement and voice techniques are now shared in personalized sessions, reflecting her commitment to recovery: exhaustion, pause and rest. Case_O. Between Wars showcases a mix of existing works and new ones conceived specifically for this exhibition. These pieces are dynamically juxtaposed with six works of Art Informel from the Veronika and Peter Monauni collection, presented alternately. This exhibition continues Sagri's Cases series, initiated in 2022, and is anchored by the monumental sculpture Dynamis | Soma in orgasm as sex (2017), 2023, from the Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein collection.

City is a new performance by artist Georgia Sagri, created for her solo exhibition In the Context of the Collection: Georgia Sagri: Case_O. Between Wars at Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein. Premiering on Thursday, 19 September 2024, in collaboration with renowned New York actor Jim Fletcher, the work marks Sagri’s first written duet and explores themes of resilience, war, internal conflict, destruction, and renewal. Through a dynamic interplay of physical support and vocal expression—spoken, translated, sung, and negotiated—the performers examine the body as a site of vulnerability, transformation, and endurance. Real-time sound editing and layered communication creates an immersive, multilayered experience, with the performers’ bodies referencing architectural structures to evoke cycles of collapse and reconstruction. Following the premiere, Sagri performed two solo versions of City on 23 November, and 24 November 2024.

The exhibition is accompanied by the publication Case_O. Between Wars which will include installation views and images of the performance.

A production of Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein, curated by Christiane Meyer-Stoll and Letizia Ragaglia.
